Settlement evacuation, not a freeze, is a more credible and necessary objective, more closely attuned to the essential long-term interests of both parties and firmly rooted in past Israeli practice, most recently in Gaza. Placing a freeze at the center of a U.S. diplomatic effort that calls for confidence-building measures from all parties invites failure, and risks eroding the credibility of a much-anticipated U.S. effort to end the conflict.

But I think you're right that on those core issues--a two-state solution and what and when to do something about Iran--there doesn't seem to be a meeting of the minds.

New Statesman - May, 2009
The politics of demolition and construction in East Jerusalem have always been fraught. Now Israeli settlers are using archaeological excavation as cover for a programme of expansion and dispossession -- but the inhabitants of one Palestinian village won't go quietly.

London Review of Books - May, 2009
At a summit in Mecca on 7 February 2007 he expressed Hamas's support for continued negotiations based on a two-state deal along the 1967 border, a position that, McGeough suggests, brings him closer to Washington's official position than Netanyahu, who advocates only a vague 'economic peace.'
